Celebrating the women in Atlantic Canada leading the charge in sustainable business

On the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, we’re joining the many voices around the globe calling for a clean, green recovery from COVID-19. We’re shining a spotlight on clean economy business innovators from Atlantic Canada with solutions that can help us build a better world.

Jennifer Wagner, President, CarbonCure
Jennifer oversees the operations and growth at CarbonCure, a leading CO2 utilization technology. Jennifer has been instrumental in the company’s commercialization, and was recognized as one of Canada’s Clean 50 Emerging Leaders in 2020, and a Climate Trailblazer at the 2018 Global Climate Action Summit.

Dawn Jutla, Co-CEO and President, Peer Ledger
Dawn is the energetic founder, President and Board Chair at Peer Ledger, a big idea company that uses blockchain technology to help companies manage their supply chains to uphold their social values and ensure environmental responsibility. In recognition of her hybrid business-technologist passion, drive and execution ability, Dawn received the Atlantic Regional Women’s Entrepreneurship Award in 2018.

Barbara Campbell, Vice President of Commercialization, Oberland Agriscience
Barbara plays a key role in the growth and business development of clean-tech startup Oberland Agriscience, tackling the challenge of food insecurity by turning organic byproducts into a nutritious insect feed for black soldier fly larvae, which can then become a high-quality protein food for the pet, aquaculture and agricultural industries. Barbara is also an active champion of health and IT development with her own consultancy, Hammock Facilitation Inc. Her deep knowledge base, entrepreneurial spirit and negotiation skill help to propel emerging technologies and local companies through the complex world of business development.

Sheena Russell, Founder and CEO, Made With Local
Sheena leads Made With Local, a supercharged Halifax enterprise that creates nourishing foods using simple, Canadian-grown ingredients. Sheena’s work uses love as an essential ingredient: Made With Local partners with social enterprises in the community to provide meaningful work for folks in marginalized demographics. Thanks to Sheena’s leadership, Made with Local was awarded Small Business of the Year for 2020 at the Halifax Business Awards and had a big year with national distribution in Sobey’s and Loblaws.
